Conferencing six storeys below Leicester Square at The Londoner

A new five-star hotel, The Londoner, is coming to the capital’s Leicester Square in 2020, which will offer conference facilities in London’s largest commercial basement.

CN recently attended the topping out ceremony for The Londoner, which has completed development of its roof and main structure. The ambitious new development will stretch many storeys both above and below ground, with spectacular rooftop views alongside a high-tech event space below ground.

The topping out ceremony of the £300m hotel was led by Iype Abraham, commercial development director for Edwardian Hotels, which owns The Londoner. He was joined by Edwardian Hotels London chairman and CEO Jasminder Singh.

Speaking to CN, Abraham said that The Londoner had put extensive research and investment behind its state-of-the-art conference facilities. He commented: “We sought out feedback from MICE bookers, we wanted to understand the audience.

“We’re setting out to create a social and technologically advanced environment, with lots of breakout rooms and the potential for sharing. We will have fibre back walls with free, high-speed internet throughout the entire facility. Delegates will connect via a private SSID, offering increased data security.

“Building in such a central location has been a challenge, particularly getting trucks and materials on site. But The Londoner will be a highly connected venue with links all over the city, and we hope that will make it attractive for international business.”
