TEDxNewcastle announces speakers for record-breaking conference

The first speakers have been announced for this year’s largest ever TEDx conference in the North East, taking place at Sage Gateshead in Newcastle on October 6.

TEDx is a programme of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share ideas. Videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion.

TEDxNewcastle has been running since 2009, but with over 1,000 attendees already signed up, it will be more than twice the size of the previous conference. To accommodate the increase in attendance, the conference will be held in Sage Gateshead’s main hall – Sage One – for the first time.

The speakers include Professor Sugata Mitra, winner of the first ever $1m TED Prize, and founder/CEO of tech startup Dream Agility, Elizabeth Clark.

Also speaking will be former undercover drugs operative Neil Woods, pyrotechnic chemist Andrew Szydlo and Ladies of Midnight Blue, a musical duo who specialise in Afro-Latin music and are also the founders of the Harambee Pasadia music festival.

Founder of TEDxNewcastle Herb Kim said: “It’s a huge honour to be able to organise TEDxNewcastle. We couldn’t be more grateful for all the support we’ve received by the TEDx community in the North East and we’re hugely excited to bring TEDxNewcastle to the Sage for the very first time.”
