The Meetings Industry Association unveils miaList 2019

The Meetings Industry Association (MIA) has revealed the names of its 2019 miaList roll of honour.

The annual list aims to celebrate outstanding members of the meetings, hospitality and events industry.

This year’s miaList, sponsored by Epson, features 10 names, dedicated ‘Leadership’ and ‘One to Watch’ honours, as well as two team titles, which were revealed at an awards lunch at the Park Plaza London Riverbank on 28 November.

Stuart Johnson, managing director, Brown’s Hotel, was awarded the ‘Leadership’ title. Johnson’s previous experience includes working at Claridge’s, Cliveden, The Connaught and The Savoy as the youngest hotel manager at 32 years old. Yasmin Okerika from The Grand Brighton, was also awarded the ‘One to Watch’ title.

The team awards, sponsored by Core Process, featured two categories: the Best Agency/Supplier and the Best Venue. These two categories were chosen from a shortlist of 13. The Best Agency/Supplier title was awarded to Primary, who demonstrated collaboration, team engagement and passion. The Best Venue title was awarded to the Victory Service Club, who were praised for its team culture and high client retention.

Other winners included Alex Penn from Event Exeter, Andrew Dixon from The Grand York, Caroline Bull from CTT Venues, Ben Chatburn from Pavilions of Harrogate, Lucy Ann Clarke from Manchester Central, James Hunter from Hawthorn, Jenny Harding from Trinity Event Solutions, Jo Kenny from Lime Venue Portfolio, Jessica Winskill from The Grand York and Wendy Alders from Intercontinental London Park Lane.

Nominees were assessed by a panel of industry judges, including Gill Smillie of Conference Venues Countrywide, Mark Gallen of MG Sales Performance, Robert Kenward of YOU search & select, Lacy Curtis-Ward of The Lensbury, Amanda Thurlow of ACCA, Paul Southern of Central Hall Westminster and Julie Shorrock of Hotel and Travel Solutions.
