The Meetings Industry Association (mia) will be running a series of workshops for event organisers designed to sharpen skills and improve knowledge in areas such as sales, emotional intelligence and AV this summer.

The workshops will run through July and August with the purpose of assisting the mia’s aim of helping to support and grow the business meetings and events industry in the UK.

On Friday 19 July, Kevin Jackson, creative director at The Experience, will lead a team of professional speakers in Sales HIIT.

The all-day session at The Studio, Birmingham, will encourage delegates to flex their sales muscles and pick up tips from the experts to help them develop their own winning sales strategy.

Those in charge of AV and operations can find out how the delegate experience can be improved through more effective display solutions in Optimising AV Solutions – The Ultimate Client Experience.

Having teamed up with Epson UK, the free-to-attend half-day workshop on 23 July will include a look at how to incorporate greener printing into front-of-house operations and will give attendees the chance to see the latest technology in action through hands-on demonstrations.

Delegates wanting to brush up on their negotiation skills will want to clear their diaries on 8 August for insightful workshop How to Negotiate Effectively.

Led by Philip Cripps, chief executive of management and people development consultancy Thameside International, the all-day session will address the difference between selling and negotiating and arm attendees with the tools to enable them to secure successful financial agreements.

Increase sales: Change your Mindset on 13 August is ideal for those working in environments where the sales process is complex or is based on an emotional stimulus, such as weddings.

The all-day course will take place at IET: Savoy Place and will equip participants with an understanding of how emotions affect our actions and behaviour and help them increase their understanding of emotional intelligence to improve communication, build trust and rapport with clients to ultimately lead to more sales.

Signing off the summer of events is the Connect Agent Day on 22 August at The Majestic, Harrogate. The award-winning Agents Days provide a platform for industry professionals to network with top agents in an informal setting and are popular events with all who attend.

The latest event will include interactive panel discussions and team building activities, refreshments, lunch and networking opportunities.

Jane Longhurst, chief executive of the mia, said: “We are proud to be able to provide our members and the business meetings and events industry with so many opportunities to improve their skills and learning this summer. These events are bound to be popular, so I would encourage you to book a place now so that you don’t miss out.”
