Bourne Leisure and Wyboston Lakes recognised by Sunday Times
Bourne Leisure, the parent company of Butlin’s Conference & Events, has been recognised in the Sunday Times 25 Best Big Companies to Work For awards for the 11th consecutive year, being voted as the sixth Best Place to Work. Marriott made number five on the new list for 2018, which was headed by EE.
Highlights of Bourne Leisure’s success in this year’s awards includes achieving the second highest score for its team valuing their business and feeling proud to be working there, and the second highest score for its team feeling they can successfully balance their work and personal life.
Bourne Leisure also achieved the third highest Best Big Companies score for its team feeling like they contribute to the company’s success, and won a further award for its Learning and Development programmes, which aim to improve team learning opportunities.
One of Butlin’s Conference & Events’ key objectives – bringing out the best in people – was developed from Bourne Leisure’s overall business proposition, and the division says it is one of the driving forces behind the company’s success in these awards.
Butlin’s three coastal resorts of Bognor Regis, Minehead and Skegness all provide a backdrop for teambuilding, away days and conferences and events for up to 2,000 delegates through exclusive hire.
Since re-entering the MICE market five years ago, Butlin’s has hosted high-profile clients including Holland & Barrett, Argos and Virgin Atlantic.
Recent launches impacting the business events offer at Butlin’s include the West Lake Chalet Village and Bayside Apartments at Minehead – which are now available year-round for delegate hire – and the refurbishment of the Shoreline Hotel at Bognor Regis.
Agency sales manager, Ellie Jones, said: “Butlin’s Conference & Events is delighted that Bourne Leisure has been recognised for this prestigious accolade for the 11th year running. It’s a testament to the hard work of our whole team and the energy and time dedicated to every conference and event to ensure we really do bring out the best in everyone.”
Wyboston Lakes, the conference, training and leisure venue on the Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire border, has, for the fifth year in succession also earned a place in The Sunday Times ‘Best 100 Companies to work for’ List 2018.
The venue was placed 46th on this year’s list.
Director Chelsey Hutchinson said:“We’re delighted to be in the top 50. We have just announced investment for this year of over £3m in our event and bedroom facilities and those types of investment are always easier to quantify and forecast our return. However, we invest heavily in our people as we believe they are crucially important to the success and growth our business. Our people are what makes the difference, to our guests, to each other and to our business in the long term.”
Based on employee feedback Wyboston Lakes were also awarded a two-star accreditation, meaning that the venue is considered an ‘Outstanding’ employer in terms of the way it engages its staff.
