Meeting Professionals International (MPI) UK and Ireland Chapter has announced the launch of the President’s Charity, and the first organisation to receive its support is Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.
Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to women and their families affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities. MPI UK and Ireland Chapter will support the charity by raising funds at its social events and promoting cervical screening.
The Chapter is also planning to run information areas at its education events and offer advice, news and information via its newsletters, website and events so members are aware of the disease and how it can be detected, prevented and treated.
The charity was chosen by MPI UK and Ireland Chapter President Samme Allen, who recently appeared on Daybreak to highlight the issue having beaten cervical cancer in 2012.
Allen says she hopes supporting the charity will raise awareness of the disease among MPI members and the wider meeting and events industry. "I am delighted the board has agreed to support such a worthwhile charity," she says. "Through the MPI UK and and Ireland Chapter I hope we can raise vital funds for the charity and raise awareness of cervical cancer and the valuable work Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust carries out."
Director of Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, Robert Music says: "MPI UK and Ireland’s support will raise vital funds for services and with the demographic of the MPI members being the age group (25 and 34) where uptake is the lowest in the UK our relationship will provide an opportunity to remind every member of MPI that cervical cancer can be prevented thanks to cervical screening."
MPI UK and Ireland Chapter is supporting Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust in memory of Denise Fraser, a valued member of the chapter from 2000 to 2006.
